It feels like forever since COVID-19 first emerged, but Spring Break 2020 was still on in Miami. Bars, restaurants and beaches were open, but the Miami-Dade mayor issued an order prohibiting shared scooters, bikes and mopeds.
Today, countless businesses have closed and reopened, despite growing infection rates and deaths. More than 90,000 households in Miami-Dade do not have access to a car, leaving people who rely on shared bikes and scooters to find options that don’t allow for physical distancing. It is time to remove the ban on micromobility and expand options for residents when they need it the most.
